Overview
Ban Pho village is the village of Black H’Mong and Flower H’Mong. It’s beautiful scenery on spring (February and March) as the plum flower bloom everywhere.
Ban Pho village is old destination of H’mong people, in this place, there are more than 500 families and more than 3000 people. The common language of local people live in this place is tiếng Quan Hoa, in that language, “Pho” word in Ban Pho mean place where got many residents and markets.
Coming to Ban Pho, tourist enjoy the wonderful sightseeing of Bac Ha highland. Moreover, tourists will be attracted by specialties of ethnic people here such as “thang co” – a mixture of all parts of horses, ox, buffalo, pig, especially corn wine in Ban pho. Ethnic people here are very proud of corn wine.

What to explore at Ban Pho Village?
One of the traditional handicrafts in Ban Pho is fabric weaving with cotton and linen as main inputs. Local people living here wear clothes which are woven by themselves. Travellers might find it a little bit strange, like I did, as they discover the fact that girl’s dresses are very eye-catching with colorful vignettes while men mostly wear dark clothes. People in Ban Pho live mainly on rice farming, fabric weaving and planting of medicinal plants. If you visit the village when people are cooking, you will be surprised when seeing many strings of pork, beef, etc are being hung on the kitchen ceiling. That is how Ban Pho people make their own bacon
The villagers live simply – don’t expect bright lights and loud music. Indeed, don’t even expect electricity. What the lack in material possessions, they make up for in their extreme hospitality. The Hmong villagers are some of the kindest people you’ll meet in Vietnam.
If you visit around noon you may be to invited to lunch, though that can be a mixed blessing.When coming to Ban Pho village in sapa Vietnam, visitors can go into the kitchen when they are making wine, In the roof of kitchen, you wil see many strings of meat such as cows, pig, goats,.. This is a special barbecue with wine, it tastes of special flavor which you can not eat or drink in any other places. In addition to, when they’ve just finished in making wine, they will offers you to enjoy that wine and eating the barbecue food, it’s so great for visitors who travel to sapa in the first time. If you enjoy it once time, maybe this food and wine will keep in your mind and make you want to return back.
How to get to Ban Pho Village?
Ban Pho is a village of Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province. It’s takes you about 15 minutes from Bac Ha town and 2 hours from Lao Cai station.
There are 2 ways to get to Ban Pho village.
The first way, you can go along the 4d highway. it will take about 2 hours by taxi and car.
Other ways, you can go follow the 4D.E highway. But, you have to spend more time. it’s about more than 2 hours.
From sapa town, Going along Thach Son to QL4D. Then, going along Highway 70 to Highway 4D and TL 153.continuing to go to TL 153 and driving to Ban Pho Bac Ha.
